I am so very, very sorry. Praying for you now for comfort and strength.
You don't even need the "ping" server. Network switches can take care of that keep-alive. Failover is instant and automatic.
I would suggest to Jim and John that there is considerable technical expertise on Free Republic available for consultation, in the event they ever wanted to take a look at their infrastructure with an eye toward greater redundancy.
So sorry on your horrible loss. You’ll be in my prayers.
AOL is an ultra liberal hosting entity. Always has always will be.
They censor content of emails and present a lib slant on everything.
They suck
I sent you a PM but just want to publicly offer love and condolences for an absolutely nightmarish situation.
Who says it is? But it was the first place we all went to when the site was down and there was Jim. It sure beats that awful Yahoo thing.
Look, if you don’t want to use FB that’s fine. But then you have no excuse not to know what’s going on when the site goes down. You can lurk there for privacy sake.
So very sorry for your loss.
Prayers for you and your Family.
Not very well versed in these IT /SW type of issues...what happens if the software gets so old it is not supported by the manufacture? Id that a possibility in the situation you describe?
In my prayers.
What I was mad about was when DU was off line for almost two weeks after the election. I missed so many liberal tears, so many hysterical rants, so much squabbling, retribution and blaming that I will never get to see.
Now THAT's a disappointment.
I sent you a PM but just want to publicly offer love and condolences for an absolutely nightmarish situation.
Halp!!
Dear Lord, heartfelt prayers lifting for you FRiend, for strength and comfort.
Heavenly Father, hold HarleyLady close in Your loving embrace.

I don’t see walking feather posts as wrong at all.
Stuff happens,he and we wonder WHAT.
And FB is no fun on my phone due to big sign up banner hiding content.Cant use work computer even on break time.
As a retired IT guy, this is right on.
Jim - could you all please investigate the actual cost of setting up full redundancy? Many of us long-time Freepers crash when the server does.......like being denied oxygen........
Then, if you present the cost of full redundancy, present that to all of us, and let’s have a special fund-raiser to fund it. As PJ noted, the ongoing costs would likely be minimal.
Count me in for contributing to a special fund-raiser for a full-redundancy setup.......
Thanks PJ for the excellent point.......
YES - I’m IN.......
“Dont do Facebook.”
Me either. Not an option. It’s crawling with lefty lice.
It’s called “capacity planning”...to include some load testing to ensure that your site and system can handle an anticipated load and multiples of such. For the $350K annual budget for FR and for a site that hasn’t been improved or enhanced in a very long time, one has to wonder where that $350K goes each year. Some failover/redundancy is hardly too much to ask for - especially on one of the most important days in recent history. Flame away, but sometimes the truth hurts...
Thanks - bookmarked
Oh no.
I am so sorry. Prayers
