There were MANY different kinds of alligator like dinos. I do believe that current gators are basically still dinosaurs, just as birds are. Some crept close to the ground like the current crocodiles etc, and some were practically bipedal, with heavy bodies and spines. It is no wonder that only the low, creeping ones made it through evolution.

We used to take walks at lunch time down a one lane road with water on both sides in the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge. Routinely walked past(15 feet or so) gators sunning themselves along the banks. There were some very big gators!

They didn’t move much around mid-day. Wouldn’t take those walks in the early morning or towards sundown, however.

I wasn’t scared of them (but kept an eye out to make sure i knew where they were) and they never made a move towards us. Some of the smaller ones were skittish and would slink off the banks and into the water.

The trail, based on the width of 4 people is probably 6 to 8 feet wide - so this would be a big one, but is probably very real.

If he could play QB, he’d get caught using a banded substance, get suspended for a year, demand to be the starter, then transfer.

;)

I’ve seen them on branches and trees that overhang the Suwannee and Santa Fe rivers, but I’ ve never seen one climb straight up a tree. They can, however climb over a chain link fence. Pretty quickly BTW.

Haha. Then win a national championship for a rival, move to the NFL and become the biggest crybaby the league has ever seen...or he could sit on a rock and sun himself.

I only ever saw the huge gator stuffed & in the hotel
lobby. I somehow remember him as “Old Joe”; but Fang says
no my memory is failing me. - He didn’t actually care what
they called him I guess. - I’d have liked to have seen him
alive & kicking beside the springs; but I NEVER get to meet
any celebrities. :o(

LOL! I have a fondness for gators and crocs. Not sure why. Maybe it’s because there is no question as to how and why they act the way they do. What you see is what you get!!

Gators & crocs are OK at a distance. It’s bad enough here
with the wild critters we have on the place. - When it
gets dry, copperheads and rattlesnakes come up on the porch
to try to get into Dub’s water dish. The copperheads are
sneaky snakes, rattlers not so much. - We also have a snake
pit on our place (a natural sinkhole). If the Jihadists
come crawling around here; they’re in for a rude surprise.
(I saw online where they have training camps all over the
U.S. where they crawl all over the place in fatigues and
those Muslim masks with the eyeholes cut out in order to
scare us “infidels”. - If they come crawling out here;
good luck getting past the sinkhole, then there’s our big
guard dog, Dub, then there’s Fang and his crossbow and me
and my Smith & Wesson that seeks out bad guys on its own.
Also, Fang’s rifles and assorted stuff.

Nope. That one is real. We have an eight footer that lives by the 17th green at our local golf course. You get a free lift if your shot gets too close.
