I'd think that a Boeing engineer would know how to tie a necktie.

Unless they wore them for safety reasons.

Like getting caught in moving machinery.

I would think safety reasons for the clip-on-tie if he was an engineer at Boeing, too. He probably used part of the stash-after laundering-to buy a new identity-then, as MrT5 thought go to Canada, find work-not a big deal with good skills-probably use cash for a modest home off the beaten path and go on with life-I think it would be doable, even now if you were smart enough and had planned well enough.

Most of MrT5’s relatives lived in Canada, so he spent a lot of time there-he said there are far more places to easily disappear and assume another identity than there are in the US...

Fake IDs can still be had with enough hard cash-there is always some print/graphic arts shop owner in any town with a population of more than 20-30K who will produce bogus documents that will pass muster for enough $$$...
