Gee, I’m not so sure it’s so offensive. He married white women, made himself white noses over time, bleached his skin white and straightened his hair. Sounds like he was trying to be “white”? So what’s the big deal? sarc. Frankly, he was a very handsome man “as is”, as to why he went through the “freak” phase, who knows. His head was really messed up it seems. Peace.

My guess would be that he was abused as a child - there have certainly been enough stories to that effect. Incredibly talented man - also an incredibly troubled man who, from what I understand, repeated the pattern of abuse on other innocent children.
