Funny you say that, it was my first thought too ("Just like an auto-flush toilet"). In fact my original comment started out with a reference to that but then I thought better and chickened out. LOL

I hate those auto-flush things. I barely get my pants halfway back up and the thing makes a sudden sound like a jet taking off behind me. First time it happened in a store restroom I damn near had heart failure.

"Hopefully this feature can be turned off for those that have zero use for it. But then I see it as a good thing, our cat could order a couple cases of tuna while I’m in the john.

Does anybody else have cats? Let me ask you: Do you trust them?

I've gotta get some pairs of cat handcuffs. Either two little ones to go around the little paws, or a big one that hooks onto my arm and then hooks onto the cat.

I found out that, when we are away, they go to the mailbox, pick up the checks, take them down to the bank, and cash them.

The way I caught them is that I went out to their little house, where they sleep, and there was like $3000 worth of cat toys out there;

And you can't return them, because they have cat spit all over them.

And I’ll be looking for a way to disable that.... how annoying.

`My laptop is Minty fresh, too! Win7 was the end for me. I’ve not tried 18 yet, though. I’ve got 17.3 Cinnamon.

Windows can already be configured to do this after a set time period...

Once again, MSFT attempts to fix something that wasn't broken.

Maybe they could do something useful for a change?

The lockout is likely managed by “Group Policy” - standardized management by your IT department.

Want to get around your lockout when you can’t change the timeout settings? Do a web search for “Caffe1ne.exe” - it’s a small executable that tricks your computer into ignoring the timeout timer.

As always, use discretion when downloading or installing anything onto your computer.

Will that be optional or default?

My guess is that like many other annoyances, it will be ON by default, but if you jump through some hoops you can find a way to turn it OFF.

That is, until the next Windows Update is forced down your throat, and the update turns it BACK ON, probably without warning you.

I wish I was only being sarcastic...

Hopefully, they will allow the user to disable this thing. And how is it going to tell when I get up? I have no web cam. I have no sensors on my chair hooked up to the computer. How is it going to tell?

I guess if it doesn't sense a webcam but there's a microphone, it listens for your breathing.

Oh, you thought you had it muted? Silly you -- they can turn it on remotely. (Incidentally, so can Apple on the Macs.) And speech recognition / dictation gets better every day.

If you don't have a physical MUTE switch -- hardware that actually breaks the wire connection -- you might want to consider it.

As for a sensor on your chair... that's in the following Windows Update. They use your online ordering accounts to pre-order a cable harness that wires your chair with sensors to tell if you're there or not, and electrodes that encourage you to not make mistakes when you type.

Only half kidding (the part about the chair isn't true... yet).
