Calvary Baptist Church, a progressive Baptist landmark in the heart of downtown Washington, has named a gay couple as co-pastors.
Sally Sarratt and Maria Swearingen were presented to the congregation during worship services Jan. 8 and are set to begin their new jobs Feb. 26...
The 155-year-old church severed ties with the Southern Baptist Convention in 2012: It was at loggerheads with the group on several issues, including the SBCs stance against homosexuality. Calvary Baptist still affiliates with American Baptist Churches USA...

It may be a church, but with two lesbians leading it it sure isn't a Baptist church.

Im reminded of the parable of the church being like a tree, and the birds would nest in its branches. Jesus had already said in another parable the birds represent the servants of Satan.

For some reason the Washington Post doesn’t do articles on new pastors at local baptist churches who are in traditional marriages.

First new congregants: Barack and Michelle. They will fit right in.
I also have a question: Given that DC is largely black, where is this church located? My understanding is that blacks tend to be socially conservative even though they vote for Liberals. So I am just wondering if my preconception is correct, and how a "Baptist" church led by two lesbos will go over.

(by “filth” i was referring to the anti-Biblical nature of having homosexuals leading a church. it is deplorable, rotten, sickening imho. i was not referring to any individuals per se.)

All the Bible-believing Baptist churches have long ago left the ABC denomination. I personally know the pastor of a church who did this in the early 90s, and he thought his church had waited way too late to separate. AFAIK they are an ever-shrinking, microscopically-small denomination when compared to other denominations with "Baptist" in the name.
You most often see references to the American Baptist Church when leftwing groups of churches publish an open letter or hold a presser to support some radical idea or group, and they ALWAYS love to highlight the inclusion of the ABC with a gleeful "even the ***BAPTISTS*** are in agreement with us!", counting on the fact that most people who see the word "Baptist" will assume "Conservative Christian".

Call it what they will, it surely isn’t a “church” either, just as a debauched same-sex union, isn’t a marriage.

I’ve been there. It’s a cool building but a crappy “church”
They rent out their Sunday school rooms to groups touring DC. They have a bunch of mattresses. limited kitchen, showers etc. The price is great but I realized the place was pretty weird when we got there and checked in with Mohammed at the baptist church.
