A drone smashed into a Boeing plane with 80 passengers and 6 crew on board, causing substantial damage to the aircraft as it prepared to land at an airport in Mozambique.
The Boeing 737-700 belonging to airline Linhas Aéreas de Moçambique (LAM) was operating a domestic flight when it was struck as it approached Tete airport, according to the Aviation Herald.
The crew heard a loud bang but continued their approach, suspecting a bird had struck the plane. However, later examination revealed the damage was more substantial than initially thought and caused by an apparent drone collision.
Photos shared online show alarming cracks at the front right of the fuselage.

Beta test. Good luck, Africa.
We used to have a resident freeper who gave us all the technicals on how drones, one day, would be used to bring down an airliner.
His detail was so incredibly rich that I believe the Feds came to speak to him.
This was some years back.
Must have been a Russian drone, and the passengers were all Democrats.
Have an engine suck in one of those things and you’ve got big problems.
Actually the Boeing passenger jet smashed into the drone.
I was just discussing this threat with a coworker a couple days ago. here we go.
Yup. Remote controlled V2.
Good thing jet turbines don’t put off any heat signature a drone could latch into incoming. That could be an issue.
Hmmmn.
Mozambique, eh?
No radical Muslims there with an Amazon account, right? Just exuberant teenagers with locally-built radio-controlled toys.
Next will be a drone loaded with 10-35 lbs of high explosives.
In a US airport.
Oh my!
Calls for advance laser burn-cones on takeoff and landing on the turbines. Or below 10Kft, whichever is less :)
Nah.
Sidewinder warhead only weighs less than 21 lbs.
Length 9 feet 11 inches (3.02 m)
Diameter 5 in (127.0 mm)
Warhead WDU-17/B annular blast-frag
Warhead weight 20.8 lb (9.4 kg)
All you need is to get close, or touch - as the Muslims did here. You can even do it on the ground during rollout or takeoff - still at a high enough speed in either case to kill all onboard.
No, I mean each jet needs countermeasure lasers mounted 1) to create cross-stream burns that confuse any incoming heat-seeking, 2) focus on and fry same as it approaches and 3) fry the control tower for not executing anti-drone countermeasures. :)
Wasn’t a toy sized personal drone. Pictures show heavy damage way exceeding what a goose strike at cruise speed would cause.
Survey operations in the area were reportedly using multi-hundred kilogram government or professional level gear. That could possibly have taken out the cockpit glass.
Drone bombings are going to become a huge issue in the near future. Enjoy your drone hobby while it lasts, they’re going to be illegal and highly restricted within a few years.
Bad for the Boeing. Worse for the drone.

I kind of suspect Translation Error in this story.
