He’s making a big deal about what may not have been an intended slur, but he is completely correct. If whites are told they have to verbally walk on eggs around minorites, then minorities should have the same presumed responsibility.
At very least, the cashier was not communicating in a professional way. No one likes to be spoken of in 3rd Person, as though the speaker did not think he could hear what she was saying. Just basic workplace courtesy is needed, that’s all. If she had said. “This guy’s order is already filled.”,and turned her head to him, making eye contact while speaking, that would have been more polite.

On a side note, there were difficulties getting a timely serving, but when I complained the black cashier gal was very courteous and expedited my meal. No racism observed.

Same thing happened to me in a New Orleans Popeye’s in 1995. The order on the mic placed for me was “White boy wants a three piece”. I thought it was funny. I was (am) white, and they didn’t get to be. So sad.
