Is Mammouth Mointain in the Himalayas?

I used to ski at Mammoth quite a bit. Twenty feet will make the mountain VERY dangerous for at least a week afterwards.

Mammoth is actually the remnants of an old volcano and there are fumaroles on the mountain. About ten years ago, three members of the ski patrol were overcome and died. It was a similar situation. A ton of snow. They were putting up the caution ropes (you can actually ski right up to the fumarole) when the snow collapsed and one fell in. The other guy went in to save him and he was overcome. The third ski patrol member tried to tunnel in from the side to save the other two and he was overcome.

It’s a great mountain, relatively easy to get to, only one 8000 foot pass to get to, about four and a half hours from LA up the 395.

I fear there will be some idiot that will go off trail or back country and end up in an avalanche. Keep your fingers crossed. Don’t screw with Mother Nature.
