My father was heinously brutal. His favorite punishment for us boys was ramming his knee into the side of our unsuspecting thigh muscle giving us a 'dead leg.' It was agony.
And he would beat my brother for being left handed. We all hated dinner time because my brother ate with the wrong hand and needed correcting. He usually ate just two meals a day when dad was at work.
In the end, you will have to excuse me for hating myself for striking my son.

When I lost my temper and slapped my child once... I felt so incredibly bad.
As you say, when you undergo abuse as a child, you just can’t forgive yourself.
