I grew up in Alabama, and remember first seeing an inter-racial couple in around 1984 - not in Alabama but on a trip to Michigan. Thirty short years later, and it seems almost commonplace.

We married in 1980, and there were two married interracial couples in our group of friends. We live in Florida and schools have been integrated since 1970ish. We’ve lived in the same neighborhood for 28 years and this neighborhood was integrated when we moved here and it’s still integrated at basically the same percentage make up for years. Blacks sell to whites who in turn sell back to a black couple, and vice versa. We also have the lowest crime rate in the entire city. We have many interracial families in the neighborhood. It’s not an unusual thing.
