Pip, pip, hooray! The first of two baby American bald eagles has begun to hatch in Fort Meyers, Florida, delighting millions of people who have tuned in to watch the eaglets emerge. The build up to the hatching is being live-streamed 24/7 by the Southwest Florida Eagle Camera, offering a close-up look at the lives of female bald eagle Harriet and her mate, M15. On Thursday afternoon, viewers caught a glimpse of the beginning of the hatching process, the first crack in an egg's shell. The first break in the shell is called a pip, according to the National Eagle Center.

We’ve had a pair of nesting bald eagles on a webcam here in Pittsburgh for some time now.

They caused a minor stir last summer when they picked-up a stray cat and ate it on a live webcast.

Harriet the Eagle lives in a noisy neighborhood.

She keeps looking around like someone is watching her.

Watched same nest a couple of years ago.
We have a nest in our neighborhood. My dying father thought he was watching it.

At that time they occasionally gave interesting facts. One I remember is that the Eagles in Florida are the same species as those in Alaska but are half the size

I wonder if they are anywhere near windmills ?...
I wonder if we’ve met our 4000 eagle limit for 2016 ?
I wonder how we keep it at a 4000 eagle limit ?
- Have a scrolling dead eagle counter marquees on the windmills ?
- Teach eagles to read numbers ?

How about an eagle cam near a windmill farm? so the folks can watch the eagles get sliced into pieces by the blades.

The publicity this cam has gotten recently is causing problems with the site apparently. Too many watching and it keeps crashing. I’ve given up checking in on it. Several others to watch instead.

I watch nests in IA, GA, MN, two in TN, and another in FL (that one has two recently hatched eaglets).

About the time the young eagles fledge, the storks in Europe begin laying and I watch several nests there.

And about the time the storks fledge, the sea eagles are taking care of business in Australia.

Almost always a nest cam in one window while I do other things in another window or two. LOL! But it’s interesting to watch nature in action.

Is this a test of that new streaming compression software? If so, the ranger better be careful.
