A Florida man is in jail on charges that he threatened President-elect Donald Trump on Facebook.
The Secret Service arrested the 59-year-old Krohn on Thursday at his suburban Fort Lauderdale home after agents say he posted at least two threats against Trump. In one, he allegedly wrote that he was glad President Barack Obama hadn't seized his guns "because I see a good use for one now" over a picture of Trump.

Look at this, here it is... does this sound like a guy who was joking? Not to me. Why isn't he in prison as we speak? Last I heard of him was he stepped down as CEO.
For the last eight years we have all known what we would endure had we succumbed in a foolish moment. Now it is their turn. Consider mercy once the lawyers have stripped the flesh.

"True Threats" as defined by law should be and are illegal. But you hit the nail on the head with your question. Yes, statements about the president should be given special consideration. Virtually all of them are crude, offensive political statements (protected by the 1st Amendment) rather than "true threats" (not protected). This guy's statements fall in the crude, offensive political statement category.
And who gets to define what a ‘true threat’ is?

I know. And courts can decide to manipulate that definition. (facepalm)
