On Saturday morning, I recalled a conversation over the summer with a German lady who had "found herself on the receiving end of some vibrant multicultural outreach from one of Mutti Merkel's boy charmers":
As a result, she no longer goes out after dark. She had also decided - with reluctance, because she enjoyed it - to cancel her participation in a local Christmas market, where she'd sung carols every year - in broad daylight.
"Why would you do that?" I asked.
"Because it's Christmas," she said, "and I'm worried Christmas will be a target."
And I concluded:
Christmas markets are a grand German tradition, but probably not for much longer.
Forty-eight hours later, twelve people are dead and 48 are injured (at the time of writing) because they attended a Christmas market at Breitscheidplatz in Berlin. This BBC headline effortlessly conveys the madness of our times:

Mark Steyn’s Twitter
Excellent article. Steyn is one of the best. His point about enforcing a border and not ugly barriers around our shops and cultural events is spot on. Trump should use this in one of his speeches.
Yes he should.

Just imagine how the scene in Aliens would go if Hicks were a bleeding heart liberal.
“Awesome man, Awesome. Multispeciesism man! All we have to do is let them in and sing kumbaya man! Awesome man, AWESOME!”
Trump should ask Steyn to serve as one of his speech writers.
Since we seem to have wound up obsessing on percentages, I suppose twelve dead Germans is likewise an insignificant percentage, and far too trivial to sophisticates to warrant "Mark Steyn-esque hysteria". But it is December 20th, and for the victims' families in five days' time that will be 100 per cent of their children or parents or boyfriends or girlfriends missing at the Christmas table. Say a prayer for them: They died because of the recklessness of a western political class that has doubled down on a mad long-shot sociopolitical experiment that can only end catastrophically.
There is a book written by Jared Diamond (the guy who won a Pulitzer Prize for “Guns, Germs, and Steel”) called “Collapse: How Civilizations Choose to Succeed or Fail”.
Germany and most of Western Europe has simply chosen to fail. I think Toynbee said that civilizations are not murdered but commit suicide.
I read that book years ago...pretty good book until I got to the end and of course.....wait for it.... global warming was the real reason civilizations will fail...
The Rats seem to think moose limbs are a win win. They think they will vote Rat and kill mostly conservatives.
I disagree. I hope Trump does not use Mark Steyn as a speech writer, unless only after some editing. Steyn is great at problem analysis, but usually tries to illustrate his points through sarcasm and droll humor.
Mark spends too much time weaving elaborate jokes then laughing at those jokes. He seems at times to be overly impressed with his ability to turn a phrase.
When he’s substituting for Rush, this tendency plus his Welsh accent can render Mark unlistenable for me.
That he is. He's smart, witty, and fast on his feet. He'd make a great Press Secretary.
He is so right on and he began critical of Trump but quickly came around because mainly of the Moslem situation.
War of the Worlds with Gene Barry(1953) but then, Independence Day had a similar scene. So have lots of other Si-Fi movies.
“...global warming was the real reason civilizations will fail...”
An actual rise in temperature, or the hysterical Luddite attempt to “stop” it? If the latter, then I agree - Global Warming will be the death of western civilization.
It's why Coulter can't be taken seriously, and that's a great, great shame and waste of talent. Her books are better at controlling the sarcasm and snark, Demonic: How the Liberal Mob Is Endangering America being the best.
