I have (yet another) dumb question: Why not just let the hunters hunt the lions and bears?

Did they ban hunting them with dogs asOregon did? Bad idea.

The lions and bears generally catch the slow, injured, inept or unlucky. Hunters generally target the prime buck, who no longer passes along his superior genes. Over a long enough span of time that will lower the quality of the stock.
