Yahoo recently released information on a breach that exposed over 1 billion accounts. You would be wise to change your password and update your security information.

You should be okay if you changed your password within the last four months.

But the breach was from 2013 ... “Yahoo said a 2013 hack compromised data from more than 1 billion users. “ https://www.yahoo.com/tech/1-billion-user-yahoo-breach-143800752.html

It was one of the early web based email providers. I’ve kept an email acct there (while acquiring others elsewhere for different purposes) just so I have a long lived email address.

No, I don't have a yahoo account. I don't even know what that means.

What does that mean? My home page is google chrome. Except on an old laptop that won't work with anything other than Firefox.

I got a “please change your password” notification back over a year ago. So apparently this is old news for Yahoo no matter what the ‘fake news’ sources are saying.

No, I don't have a yahoo account. I don't even know what that means.

If you go to YAHOO.COM, you will see a link to email. If you don't have an account, you can easily set one up.

I do have a YAHOO email account but it is almost totally useless. It is tied to my book and there is so much spam that I check it sometimes, but it's been impossible to get control of it again.

Many people use the same exact username and password on many sites because it’s easy for them to remember. One trick that hackers and thieves use is to try using stolen names and passwords on all the common sites to see where they can get in. Often times, they are rewarded by a certain percentage of success.

Hackers obtained more than just names and passwords in the Yahoo breach — they also nabbed answers to security questions. Cybercriminals can use that info to conduct automated attacks called “credential stuffing.”

That’s when hackers take the stolen information of millions of users and build a program that tries to log in to other online accounts like banking, retail and airline rewards.

Yahoo is advising people to change the passwords and security answers on any other accounts for which they used the same or similar information as their Yahoo account.

I have a yahoo email as my garbage dump...meaning I don’t check it and thus don’t mind if it gets spammed. That way I can sign up for things that demand a valid email without worrying about how many marketing lists I’m on. My real email for people I want to talk to us gmail.
