Back in the day, when I was on the campus of the U of C (southside of Chicago)in the 70’s, we were told to carry a whistle. It was called the Whistle-Stop program. If anything untoward happened to you, you were to start blowing your whistle. If you ever heard a whistle sounding, you were to join in the whistling, too.
