A neighbor helping to clean a vacated mobile home discovered a grenade strapped to a package with a highly flammable substance Saturday morning, according to the Manatee County Sheriffs Office.
The device was removed safely, and no injuries were reported.
The 82-year-old resident of the mobile home in K & K Mobile Home Park, 4918 14th St. W., Bradenton, had moved out on Thursday, when his 56-year-old son came and took him back to Lufkin, Texas, with him, according to a news release.

It was a ‘pineapple’ style grenade...I bet there’s a pineapple in the grenade holder by accident.
“Well? Where do you keep YOUR grenades???
In a grenade holder, of course.”
Bingo! That’s where I keep mine!
I keep mine in the fire place...
That’s just silly. Everyone knows he fireplace is for blasting caps and dynamite sticks!
That’s exactly what my wife told me. But I wouldn’t listen to her.
I guess it’s the sofa for me tonight...
Wherever they find the grenade is the last place they look. ;-0
Well, it’s loaded, but the spring is not wound up.
So it’s harmless.
Unrelated, but since I am talking about my Thompson on this thread, I am going to comment on the round magazine.
Yes, they hold way more ammo than a stick. 50 vs. 30 in the case of my Thompson.
Not all that much heavier, but noticeable.
The big problem is they rattle like hell when you move. There’s a lot of play. Just a bad idea to do anything but sit and ambush someone.
Or, I suppose attack while there is gun fire and artillery going off everywhere.
