My late father - who taught and coached for 40 years - often said that when the last of the WWII and Korean War vets retired, the public schools would go to hell. Some of the younger faculty would get upset with him for saying it at the time, but after dad and the other old heads retired, most of those younger ones told him privately that he was right.

Wow, I tell you, that’s exactly what happened, one picture that stands out in my head clear as a bell is I remember having this English lit class around 1980 and our Professor - Dougherty, I believe his name was, would come in every day with a suit and tie and he would read these incredible poems, just real fantastic stuff and one day without saying a word, he just retired. He never told us beforehand, maybe it was an emergency, but we got a new Professor - who came in into class - I swear on my mother - wearing sandals and a tie dye shirt and a beard and right away he started in on Nixon and Reagan and that was it for me. I dropped the class THE same day. So to me, it’s doesn’t get any clearer than that. I am assuming that is what happened in all the other classes as well through the years whereas now this garbage is still going on. Thank you 1960s for creating generations of imbeciles.
