North Face is locally owned now, by VF. I’ll try to patronize them if I’m feeling froggy enough to buy something new, lol.
I bought a pair of Hunter waterproof boots last year and I live in them all winter.
They’re warm and very comfortable, with memory foam cushioning.
I needed and wanted new raingear. I spent most of a year, trying on raingear in every sport shop in New England. Seriously. My needs were for lots of pockets and a long enough tail, so that when you sit on a wet log, your @ss doesn’t get wet. And easy access/egress for the CCW [MOST important]
I ended up with a Double LL coat with a zip-in liner; the style was new to the layering systems, which are so common now. Got to stay dry and warm when you are out there. :)
It will last me forevah.
As long as they keep dry, a ‘roomy’ size and some warm sox is all you should need to keep your feet warm.
DRY is what is most important.
I think some of their stuff is *pre-treated* ...dunno about that claim.
Easy enough to do it yourself.
I had an old Goretex pullover shell with a zip up collar and hood from LL Bean that would have worked. Somebody stole it, haven’t seen one quite like it since.
I’m all for local, small, personal. Wicked good.
Muck Boot Arctic Sports here.
We've never tried their shoes but for years, LL Bean was the only polo shirt my husband wore. About 2 years ago I ordered a couple of new ones (exact same style he always wore) and they were awful - didn't fit well, felt different. Same with the khakis - the hem rips and looks tattered in less than a season. I've stopped buying their clothes. OTOH, their backpacks and lunchboxes are fantastic. One of my daughters has carried the same pack for the past 6 years and it hardly shows any wear at all. Definitely worth the price.
Well, I am celebrating that Double LL is doing well.
And employing people. Who knows if their expansion will be sustained? Times are still tough.
Another Double LL product I will always swear by are their canvas bags; we call them boat bags. They last forever. And are still made in Maine, as far as I know.
absolute best rubber boots I ever wore were XtraTufs with felt liners. Used to work on boats in AK and they were comfortable 16-18 hrs a day working.
Used to be made in Illinois, but the company was sold around 2011-12. Now they make them in China. The 1st couple years there they had delamination issues. Might have fixed the quality issues, but they are still made in China.
Even with well-made Chinese apparel and footwear, there’s that chemical smell, I have to wonder just what was used to make the things. Breaking out in an ugly rash isn’t uncommon.
I bought my daughter and son an LL Bean backpack for school back in the early nineties. They still have them and they are going strong!
Now that I think, I have a set of Double LL canvas luggage; has been through h3ll and back, without any wear/damage.
It’s the kitchen version of the little black dress. I’ve used mine 3 times this week. It never leaves the stove top.

I love their Polartec II windproof jackets; light, warm durable. I have almost all the colors.
Yes. I love my cast iron. Eggs, potatoes, corn bread, pancakes, grilled cheese, french toast, and the list goes on. I have several pieces from a huge dutch oven down to a griddle. I even have a separate set for camping. My dearly loved grandmother also considered them her ‘weapon’ of choice.
My last new LL Bean pique knit pullover shirt was a Christmas gift a few years ago. First wearing, my dog put out her paws for a “hug” and accidentally swatted the button placket. Ripped a button right out of the fabric, it was torn. Ruined on the first wearing. I’ve got some that have to be fifteen years old at least, they fade so nicely or used to, and I sincerely doubt the buttons would rip out of them like that even now.
Mine was caution yellow, went for hi-viz practicality rather than fashion, lol.
