Why do hearing aids cost so much, don’t really work according to a lot of users, get obsolete quickly, fail often, require constant battery replacement and are sold by so many manufacturers? How is we have incredible smart phone technology and no one has figured out to make a quality, low cost hearing aid?

The problem with hearing aids is that they cannot replicate your brain and ears. Your brain can adjust what you are listening to. You can shift from watching TV, having a conversation, to listening to a noise in the house.

Hearing aids tend to magnify all sounds, equally. That takes some time to get used to. If you talk to audiologists they will tell you that most people who give them up haven’t had them long enough to get used to.

I went through this with my Mom and MIL. Now, I have to wear ear muffs when I spend time with them because the TVs are so loud. (I don’t really.). But I spend an inordinate amount of time repeating myself, retransmitting conversations, and shouting o get their attention.
