Sarah McBride, the national press secretary for the Human Rights Campaign, has been out as transgender since she was 21. She made history in 2012 when she became the first out trans woman to work at the White House, where she interned with the Office of Public Engagement. She again made history at the DNC in 2016 when she became the first out transgender individual to speak at a major party convention. McBride celebrated the Supreme Courts marriage equality ruling but said that the LGBTQ community is still fighting to gain equal rights. She asked: "Will we be a nation where there is only one way to love, only one way to look, and only one way to live?"
