My dad was BIGly into Norman Vincent Peale. He kept a library of material to read in a built in magazine rack next to the upstairs bathroom. As my sister stated yesterday "the victory tour is right out of the upstairs bathroom -- the power of positive thinking -- it's something daddy would have done!"

Did you notice the smiles on the people seated behind him in Cinncinnati ? Went CHRISTMAS shopping yesterday (got to buy a new water heater for myself) the same smiles were on clerks and fellow customers. It IS contagious 😀

For a detailed and usually authoritative read on the legal and practical issues of a recount, take a look at some of the analyses in law reviews as to the 2000 election contest in Florida.

In the Civil War, the Southern states were subtracted from the calculation of an electoral vote majority because those states had been formally declared to be in rebellion. Today, no such subtractions would be made from the electoral vote majority required for the election of a President.

Since the Constitution does not set a number, it’s common sense (and I’m sure legal precedent) that you vote with what brung ya, or the majority that shows up. There can be, and has been, no precedent for a “quorum.” Hence, the Civil War example remains the example.

Good article and despite the handwringing of some concern trolls, this recount publicity stunt is just that. Trump has those three states locked down six ways to Sunday as you point out. Flipping even one of them is not only the equivalent of a Hail Mary pass from the opposite end zone in a blizzard, but three such Hail Mary passes would need to be made to affect the outcome. Not to mention the complete destruction in the faith and integrity of our election system.

Donald Trump is handling all this perfectly. He's not allowing it to be a distraction and he's proceeding full speed ahead in assembling his administration. Even many people who did not vote for him have accepted him as our President-Elect. Only us political junkies are paying much attention to these recounts at all. The average guy on the street couldn't care less and knows they won't go anywhere.

Good news on your book being published. Definitely put me down for a copy. Let me know by Freepmail when it is available for purchase.

Between Carrier, taking the calls from foreign leaders, moving ahead with cabinet appointees, he just blows this stuff off, establishing in the minds of the people he is already president.

It’s pretty amazing. Were anything remarkably destructive-—as you mention, the Hail-Hail Mary Pass-—to occur, the built-in presumption he is president would result in a civil war.

It’s also having a pretty remarkable affect (do you agree with this?) of pushing Obama aside even before he’s done. I get the sense that Obama is a non-entity now in DC, despite his power to still do damage. It’s almost as thought he’s bewildered.

I'm surprised at how Obama is keeping a low profile and allowing Trump to have the spotlight. Maybe that's how it normally is in a transition, it's been a while since I paid much attention to a presidential transition. The last two presidential cycles, I basically turned all the news off and just focused on the holiday season.

I can't really back it up but I'm thinking that Obama is secretly pleased that Hillary Clinton lost. Had she won, she and her people would have taken complete control of the Democrat Party and Obama would have been shunted aside rather quickly. In this scenario, Obama can at least hope for Trump's failure, which he believes will redeem his own legacy. Kind of like how those "Miss Me Yet" GWB memes were popping up once it became established that Obama was in over his head. back in 2009. His ego would be salvaged if people out there started missing him and pining for his return.

It's amazing how many people still think Trump is going to fall flat on his face. He continues to be underestimated. It's clear to me that Trump knows exactly what he's doing and he's putting a team in place that will truly make our heads spin during those first 100 days.

I think Obama underestimated the news cycle, even in the hands of libs. I don't think he has gasped the fact that once he no longer has power, everything moves on. He can pull a Jimmy Carter, and be a pain in the ass from time to time, but

"Begone. You have no power here."

When all the marbles are at stake, common sense and historical precedent are weak considerations easily brushed aside on the way to a preferred result. For clever lawyers and an accommodating Supreme Court, the Twelfth Amendment could provide a counter example and plausible authority for a two thirds quorum and a majority vote of the states to chose a President.
