It is leftist BS that the biggest threat to freedom of speech somehow are the companies that provide broadband. There hasn't been a problem for, oh, the last 30 years since people have been expressing themselves on the net, but they want to believe internet companies are just around the corner ready to curtail our speech.

It is meant to distract from he real bully, government.

It’s a redux of Woodrow Wilson’s “corporations” bogeyman. Wilson expounded on this in his 1887 screed Socialism and Democracy:
“Corporations grow on every hand, and on every hand not only swallow and overawe individuals but also compete with governments.The contest is no longer between government and individuals; it is now between government and dangerous combinations and individuals. Here is a monstrously changed aspect of the social world. In face of such circumstances, must not government lay aside all timid scruple and boldly make itself an agency for social reform as well as for political control? ‘Yes,’ says the democrat, ‘perhaps it must.’” …
Not unlike any other socialist. (And I wonder if he meant to write “democrat” with a big D sometimes.)
