In horror movies, you don’t have to open the door. The

When John Glenn was on one of his space flights, he reported that there were a lot of little glowing lights outside his window.
There was a tense pause at Mission Control, and then the lead guy asked “What are they saying John?” and everybody broke up.
Turns out it was frozen condensation breaking off.

It’s due to the large temperature differences felt by the structure of the spacecraft. A high school kid knows this, don’t ask me why this moron of a astronaut doesn’t.
That would be my guess, but what spooks me is he didn’t. I wondered if he did consider this but it something made him think not. Also, the other astronauts that went and heard the same didn’t consider this either. Seems the logical answer.
