Handy at this time to review the AP Style Guide on the subject:

Also handy to review the Society of Professional Journalists (an oxymoron if there ever was one) guidance on a related matter:

Of course, there is no editorializing on the news pages, is there?

We need an extension that replaces terms such as liberal, progressive, leftist, democrat, socialist, etc. to “communist mass murderers.”

Typical of the left wing ... trying to lump crazy racists in with the entire conservative group. But they won’t dare lump the crazy jihadists in with all Muslims.

I've been a Conservative since about 1977, and I've been on the WWW since 1994.
I have never — never — even heard the expression "Alt-Right" since it was first uttered by Hillary Clinton, or one of her flying monkeys, a month or two ago.
I've never seen the video that Hillary said was the cause of the Benghazi murders either, as long as we're on the subject.

Okay. I am just irritated with this “alt-right”, “alt-left”, or “alt-bullcrap”.
What is it with this? Why not just say what you think instead of inventing stupid new words or phrases. (not YOU, it is the general “you” markomalley!)

Why not just say what you think instead of inventing stupid new words or phrases I always felt that way about "there there" (as in: 'There's no there, there') .... what in hell is that supposed to mean anyway ???

I would think a more useful extension for the alt-left would be an extension that replaces “Republican” with “deplorable racist, xenophobic, misogynous, white supremacist”

“White supremacy” is not at all the same thing as “alt-right”, no matter how much certain mindsets want to conflate the two terms. Made of the same cloth as the attempt to tag all Republicans with “racist, sexist, bigot, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamophobic, you name it”, a quote much beloved by Herself, in placing a label on “the basket of deplorables.”

Good point!
That is the exact reason I do not use their term "Progressive" as that word still has good attributes. Who is against progress, right?
I instead stick to descriptions like leftwinger, socialist, or communist.
