Texas Hat Company Designs Custom Cowboy Hat for Trump
Breitbart ^ | 26 Nov 2016 | LANA SHADWICK

A Bowie, Texas, company has made cowboy hats for famous personalities and now they have made a beaver belly fur and mink one for President-elect Donald Trump. The hat is adorned with a gold and diamond trim hat band and has a silverish tone, as reported by the Wichita Falls Times-Record News.

The publication reported that Trump noticed Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller’s hat and was introduced to the American Hat Company. Treasure Maddox, the daughter of the hat company owners and her friend Andrew Graves are acquaintances of Trump’s son, Eric. Eric Trump asked the hat company if they could make a hat for his father.

Now Eric, Donald Trump, Jr., and Vice President-elect Mike Pence all have hats from the Texas-based company.

The hat made for the GOP presidential nominee and president-elect retails for $2,800. The gold lettering inside the hat says, “President, Donald J. Trump; United States of America; January 20, 2017.”

The American Hat Company has made cowboy hats for professional rodeo cowboys Freckles Brown, Jim Shoulders and Lane Frost, and is a top choice for ranchers, lawmen, and others who wear cowboy hats. Cowboy hats that have an “open crown” can be shaped to fit the buyer’s head at no extra cost.

That’s what I have, a Stetson fedora. Hubby has three Stetson cowboy hats.

I was actually stationed at George AFB in Victorville for a year and missed a golden opportunity to visit his Apple Valley Museum while he was still alive.

Thanks-I did find out what it was at about age 14-before that, it was sort of like the term “mystery meat” for protein without a positive ID to me-my favorite pair of gloves is lined with rabbit fur...

.
Unfortunate then that you know so little about proper punctuation.

Slippery slope prevails.

With no comma, some would think it said January 202017.

But what about the other comma, the one after "President" eh?

Poor English grammar, special meaning, or . . . what?

Yes, the original museum was located in a converted bowling alley in Apple Valley. The larger museum was then built in Victorville. After Roy’s & Dale’s deaths, the musuem moved to Branson, and the Victorville building was torn down. Now the Branson location is closed. Interestingly, the original Apple Valley location converted back to a bowling alley. Sadly, the end of an era.

I know this from experience. I used to illustrate for news ads.

Not meaning to offend, but your comments re the punctuation are in error, as are the comments of several other responders. To start, there are five errors found in the inscription:

1st and 2nd errors -- Wherever a comma is used as a separator, it demands a following space. In both cases, where the comma occurs, its following space is absent.

3rd error -- There should be no comma between the words "President" and "Donald". In journalism or advertising, one would not write "Colonel,Richard Smith" or "Mayor,John Jones". Here, one does not write "President,Donald J. Trump. The comma sould not be present.

4th error -- On the other hand, one would not write "ColonelRichard Smith". Proper writing of a title preceding the name would insert a space between the title and the name, as in "Colonel Richard Smith" or "President Donald J. Trump". The space should be inserted.

5th error -- to a European mathemetician "20,2017" would represent what to an English-speaking means "20.2017" in the decimal system. The absence of the space is confusing. *****

Regarding the errors of other commenters:

o When the title refers to the Chief Magistrate of the United States, the word "President" is always, always capitalized, whether it is associated with a name or another title (i. e., "Mr. President"), or whenever it stands alone in a sentence. o The hat's inscription better and more elegantly phrased would be the line (which does use correct punctuation):

Donald J. Trump, President

o Making a pronouncement without checking the style book or giving an authoritative grammar reference is a faux pas, and could be offensive.

In the above cases, see the Grammar section of the "Webster's Third New International Dictionary (Unabridged)."

Your post reminds me of my mom. She once received a letter from some company that wanted to represent my parent’s small business. It was a full-page letter. I can still recall her going over it and correcting all of their errors in red, and then showing and explaining them to me.

The thing was covered in red, and she replied something like “Why in the world would we want you to do our advertising?” My mom and dad did all of that - even full page newspaper spots (back in the 70’s). Although I imagine they had help with the layout.

The same hatmaker also made two Stetsons for Trump’s two adult sons.

I think if you take a look at the newspaper article by the Wichita Times-Record News (click here), you will find that there is no reference whatsoever to "Stetson," a brand name with which their hats are not identified. What they have made for a hundred years is cowboy hats, not Stetsons.

I have a 25-year-old Open Road 3X Beaver Stetson, branded "J. B. Stetson," now made by Hatco, Inc. Here is a summary (click).

I recently purchased an AzTex 10X Beaver "Open Road" style hat, made by Az-Tex (click here), and you can see the going price of one of those. AzTex also markets the Stetson and Resistol hats in their online catalog.

I suppose sometime the copyrighted name Stetson will eventually pass into the general vocabulary as indicating any cowboy hat, but not yet, eh?

My 10X was Stetson and made in USA. In fact, when I rode from Omaha to KC, one could see the Stetson factory or outlet in ST Joseph, MO from the Interstate.

I repent of using too many commas and capital letters. I may backslide occasionally. Woe is me!
