You can tell a lot about a news organization by the moniker they place on Castro on the day he died.
With all this talk about fake news, why are so many afraid to call a violent, murderous dictator a Dictator?
Organization | Word Used |
---|---|
BBC | President |
US News | President |
Daily Mail | President |
Bloomberg | President |
CNN | Leader |
|
|
PBS | Leader |
Chicago Tribune | Leader |
SF Chronicle | Leader |
Yahoo News | Leader |
AOL News | Leader |
|
|
ABC News | Revolutionary Leader |
LA Times | Revolutionary Icon |
NY Times | Revolutionary |
Seattle Pi | Icon |
Google News | Dictator |
|
|
NBC | Dictator |
FOX | Dictator |
Washington Post | Dictator |
Herald Sun | Dictator |
|
This table give you a good indication of who is selling fake news...
I am suprised by google and wapo.
Excellent!
Thanks!
I would call their reportage on this an anomaly, oversight or accident.
His family obviously has ties and he remembers many of the horrors.
They use labels to burn their point into our brains. Al sharpton is a “civil rights leader “. Ann Coulter is a “conservative “ commentator.
Continued use of the labels provides the people with a default understanding of the individual, permitting them to neglect finding out the facts for themselves.

maybe they have holiday staff on duty?
I’m sure, if you were to poll millennial college students with the question, “How did Fidel Castro become Cuba’s Dictator?,” they would reply, “By a free and Democratic election, of course.”
Excellent!!!
No ‘Despotic Murderous Thug’??
Hmmm.. I wonder why that wasn’t mentioned?

It’s a shame it wasn’t Soros who negatively impacts this country more than Castro did (IMO)
Well the NYT ‘s writer Herbert Mathews was the main reason Castro was able to Garner support early on against Batista
headline for the online edition of the Washington Post referred El Jefe as “spiritual leader of the left”. Maybe that plays on Pennsylvania Avenue but fuhget Calle Ocho!
Dictator is the appropriate word. Tyrant is also appropriate.
This is why 0bama admires him so much.
I’m really old and can remember standing in a phone booth at Ft. Belvoir, VA (we were on full alert) one cold and rainy October night in 1962 speaking to my bride-to-be in Cleveland a few weeks before our
November wedding day not sure we would survive the night!
Fortunately, around the same time, TV journalist (yes, Virginia, there was a time when there were good people in that vocation) JOHN SCALI was in a DC coffee shop in a “back channel” meeting with the Soviet Ambassador. Somehow, Scali and the Ambassador worked out a way to avoid the threatened nuclear holocaust.
As for Fidel, I’m also old enough to remember the wry joke that accompanied his rise to power: “Castro got his job through THE NEW YORK TIMES!” The the glowing reportage about “The Robin Hood of the Sierra Maestra Mountains” convinced most folks here that he was a wonderful humanitarian, not a COMMUNIST who would establish a mini workers’ paradise and provide the USSR with a base in our hemisphere.
The NYT is STILL at it, aren’t they?
