The driver of the school bus that crashed this week in Chattanooga, Tennessee, killing five young pupils, deviated from his designated route before the bus swerved off the road, investigators said Wednesday.
The driver, Johnthony Walker, 24, is charged with five counts of vehicular homicide, as well as reckless endangerment and reckless driving, in the crash Monday afternoon, when his bus smashed into a mailbox, a utility pole and a tree on Talley Road.
According to the arrest report, witnesses told investigators that Walker was driving "well above" the 30-mph speed limit with 37 children from Woodmore Elementary School on board. Six children remained in hospitals Wednesday, said police, who wouldn't identify them or provide their conditions.

Good question. He works for Durham School Services who provide buses and
drivers to many school districts. They have some 13,000 buses and drivers.

Things have changed in Fairfax. When I went to school there about half of the drivers were senior high school students. Of course that was the 50s and 60s back when this country had a lot more liberty and freedom.
We lived in NC in the early 80s. They had high school students driving school buses. I hated it!
There is no designated route. Routes are dynamic.
Authorities are hiding blame for hiring cheap foreigners instead of experience.
