The driver of the school bus that crashed this week in Chattanooga, Tennessee, killing five young pupils, deviated from his designated route before the bus swerved off the road, investigators said Wednesday.
The driver, Johnthony Walker, 24, is charged with five counts of vehicular homicide, as well as reckless endangerment and reckless driving, in the crash Monday afternoon, when his bus smashed into a mailbox, a utility pole and a tree on Talley Road.
According to the arrest report, witnesses told investigators that Walker was driving "well above" the 30-mph speed limit with 37 children from Woodmore Elementary School on board. Six children remained in hospitals Wednesday, said police, who wouldn't identify them or provide their conditions.

Yep.
I’m beginning to suspect... Muslim?
It’s outright odd that’s for sure.
24 years old. Given the ultimate responsibility. Kids told their parents about him.
Is terrorism in the picture?

24 years old. You have to wonder who hired him and why. Was he the best qualified person available, or selected because of his race? Was the person who hired him afraid of a lawsuit if he wasn’t given the job? Did he have to pass any mental evaluation before being put behind the wheel of a school bus?
Maybe there was road construction of which he was not aware so he had to take a different route.
Lock his sorry ass up for life.
This A-holes computer and electronics need to be seized.
Said this the day it happened.
Something aint right here...
Adam Lanza with a school buss??
Or was he selected because of his race by the hiring authority?
Hired for his race and he killed kids. Affirmative action is a death pact.
School bus drivers do not make much so there’s not a long line for the job. Plus they have to have a chauffeur license or a CDL. So the DMV has checked him out and approved him.
“The DMV has checked him out.” Well that settles it. He should qualify for a Top Secret security clearance. There are many competent black bus drivers. However, there is something about this man’s appearance that would make me not entrust my children to him.
I don’t know about Chatannooga, but where I live, Fairfax County, VA, school bus drivers have to have a CDL; clean driving record; clean FBI record (they’re all fingerprinted and an FBI background check conducted), spend almost 2 months in training before they’re let out onto an actual route with students, and even at that there’s a supervisor riding with them. They are subject to being greeted at any given trip by a supervisor with instructions to appear at a doctor’s office for a urine/drug test within one hour. Don’t show for the test, you lose your job, period. No excuses.
And as of about 10 years ago were paid $25/hour. A friend’s daughter (with a Masters degree) was a school bus driver for FCPS who subsequently applied for a teaching position, and at HR they asked: WHY? The drivers make more $ than teachers.
I could’ve done his job at 24, and safely at that. Then again, I was a safety rep for our maintenance division and hazmat/hazwaste rep for our squadron, and a range coach, all at 24.
Really, that's what you got?
Bitter because you got passed over for one of those coveted school bus driver jobs?

But if you click from that page to the [upper right corner] link, Durham School Services Website, you'll encounter the same spurious claims of 'safety' that were being advertised yesterday:

My heart goes out to the parents whose children were killed or injured and I'm praying for them, but I dearly hope that Durham's KNOWN unsatisfactory performance will now be investigated. It's not a crime to be poor and rely upon publicly funded school bus service, but it IS a crime for that publicly funded bus company to have cynically hired demonstrably unfit drivers and put children in harm's way.
CEO David Duke - what an unfortunate name!
