The navy is spending $2 billion for 200,000 rounds of the GPS-guided, rocket-powered projectiles, but it can also fire other kinds of rounds.

No it's not: 90 for testing, none for operational use. And those are the only rounds the gun can use,

Saltwater intrusion into the bearings....so there is a direct seawater/lube oil cooling system with seawater leaking across the heat exchanger. Seems to me there should be a freshwater system for that application, just for that reason.

1. Can't fire Standard. that was an economy made when the Navy expected to receive SC-21 ships.

2. Tomahawk $1M, LRLAP for Zumwalt gun $900,000, M142 HIMARS rocket $110,000: Choose one of three

I’m not sure enough of the details of the setup to even hazard a guess as to the source of the problem. It does seem strange to me, though, that both the Zumwalt and all of the new LCS-class ships appear to be suffering from the same issue. Design issue? Manufacturing issue?

Of course, if the ships are dogs, naming them for Republicans won’t help.
