Is this as bad an idea as I think it is?

The name change will only apply to what is currently the parent company of Smith & Wesson firearms, Smith & Wesson Holding Corp.
The firearms division won't change names.

This story is a bit misleading. They have no intention of removing the name Smith & Wesson from their firearms.

We believe that changing our corporate name to American Outdoor Brands Corporation will better reflect our strategic focus on the shooting, hunting, and rugged outdoor markets, Smith & Wesson stated.Any time a significant name or packaging is changed, it is to distract from another, critical change.
We should look for the critical change.

Okay, I'm warming up to it, I'd tweak it though and go with this ...
American Outdoor Brands Corporation Limited Holdings Partnership Conglomerate Inc ...

I'd have to get a new bumper sticker

Google now has a parent company, Alphabet Inc. (Which no one has ever heard about, mostly.)
If S&W is doing some corporate restructuring in a similar vein, the guns would still be marketed under the S&W brand. There would be some other brands under the common corporate umbrella. So what? (JMHO what this is about - feel free to correct me.)

I'm not buying it. They'll never get rid of the Smith & Wesson name.
Incidentally, my son and his wife, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, are expecting their second child in April. It's a boy and they've decided his first name will be Wesson.

This is S&W going wobbly again. Their corporate types probably don’t like being pariahs at social events, wives especially. They like the money rolling in from selling guns but they don’t want their hoity-toity social circle knowing that they sell guns.
Time for S&W to feel the wrath of the marketplace again.
To: Rio
Meh, this will eventually lead to their bankruptcy and being sold off in pieces. Would have liked a 686+ but for the infernal internal lock. Oh well, Ruger it is.

As long as they keep building the 586 with the same precision, fit and finish I don’t care what they call themselves.
It’s clearly the finest revolver in the world.

I bought a S&W 642+P for Mrs. Augie to carry as a pocket protector.
As long as it goes bang when/if she needs it to go bang I could give two sh*ts what the corporate bean counters want to call their stupid company.

Try fitting that on the headstamp of a cartridge: “American Outdoor Brands Corporation .44 Mag”.

I don’t believe that they are going to change the name of the firearms division, just the big corporate bumbershoot.
