Happy Pre-Thanksgiving all! Windy, windy day here...
Should be a good show the standouts to me are Our Miss Brooks, Jack Benny, and hoping for a great show with Family Theater...we’ll see if these are truly classics or just selected for their themes...
What are you doing for Thanksgiving? And remember it’s a day set aside by George Washington to give thanks to God of the Bible for all our blessings...

Great Line-up, thanks!
I never get tired of hearing the “Lum and Abner” T-day classic.

We've spent the entire day doing yard work and sweeping and mopping. (Five cats leave hair and *cack* everywhere.) We're loaded for bear. Six adults, four grandkids, and I wild-carded a couple of strays into the equation. 15 pound bird, mashed potatoes my way, sage stuffing with pecans and cranberries, cornbread dressing (wouldn't be Thanksgiving for the missus without it), candied yams with marshmallows melted on top, two (or as needed, three) loaves of fresh, country oven baked bread, cranberry sauce, apple and pumpkin pies with the toppings, and two bottles of Escher Riesling Rhine (couldn't find a Liebfraumilch anywhere this year, darn it - oh, well, at least it's German). The kids are bringing a baked ham, green bean casserole, deviled eggs, more baked goods, adult and kid beverages, and probably a couple of guns. Weather is supposed to be sunny and 65, but have plenty of firewood for when the sun goes down..........
Given that the Redskins are playing on SNF and The Walking Dead comes on at 9, I'll be running in and out of here (and the living room and den) for a couple hours like a rat on crack.......

Nothing too far afield. I start with whole Russet potatoes and hand peel them (flashback to sitting behind the mess hall on KP duty). Cube and boil them. Then I use real butter and milk as needed as I mash them. The one thing I don't compromise on is to season them: I grind fresh peppercorns and sea salt into them as I mix them into oblivion. Not a lump to be found. If I'm feeling naughty, I may add a touch of fresh garlic juice. Whipped into a cream but stiff enough to stand a fork in. The way the good Lord intended them to be. They'll hold your gravy the entire meal.

Do you think Russets are key? I made some last week using Gold and they were bland, no “potato taste.”

Hi, guys! Viking, your Thanksgiving dinner and plans sound top shelf, as usual! Your mashed potatoes are like mine, except I may or may not disappear all the lumps. I also like to add sour cream and heavy cream (if I go get it) to the butter, ground pepper, kosher salt and maybe a little garlic (powder, in my case).
Vision, HELLO! :-) We went to the range today and did a little shooting. It was a very nice day, and we mostly had the pistol range to ourselves. The big crowd was over on the rifle range.

Tastes, like mileage, may vary. But I think a Russet is a heartier spud than some of the 'boutique' varieties. They work well in some dishes better than others, IMO. It's like buying a bag of the mixed fingerling potatoes. They're great if they broiled with butter, garlic, and parsley, or cooked in seasoning especially for that sort of thing, but on their own, naked, they're just.........blah. Even pre-packaged mashed potatoes (Bob Evans, etc.) are Russet. I'm sure some Freepers may disagree, but that's fine. It's just how I roll. If you snuck up on someone and said "Think quick! Name a variety of potato!", nine out of ten aren't going to name a purple Russian fingerling, or even Idaho gold, but a Russet. God Bless America.

Hi Gina, fun. It was cold and windy here, not a great day to be outside unfortunately. What's the plan for Thanksgiving?
I doubt Murray will be doing a Thanksgiving show since it appears to be all about him and not his love of the material.

Ah, thank you, sir. I stand vindicated. Bookmarked in my Recipes and Cuisine Firefox folder. As you and my waistline can tell, I do love to cook, and cook the right way. The Lord didn't create us just to spawn and eat berries and roadkill.

I'm getting text updates from my sister in Pittsburgh and my mom in Cumberland. It's snowing up that way, and my sister couldn't help but to send me a pic of their roaring fireplace at Chateau Smith. LOL I've got a fire going here, too. Tonight's a night that that'll supposedly freeze the personals off an iron dog. Windy and
cold.

Oh, I didn’t even think of that—a Thanksgiving show. Ed always did the special shows at Thanksgiving and Christmas. New Year’s, too? I can’t remember now.
Your day was windy. We had the wind yesterday.
What are you doing for Thanksgiving? We have no plans. We have no family here on the Coast, just some friends that we don’t see all that often. We’ll probably just grill steaks or something and listen to football on the radio. AND give thanks of God, of course.

We now have a fire going in our little fire “bowl” thingy out in the back yard. It’s in the upper 50s here, and the wind that came with the cold front yesterday has died died to calm.
