If you look at their graphic depiction, they show two large areas, of about the same size, one that is about 35 degrees warmer than “average” and one that is about 35 degrees colder than “average”.

It makes me doubt their data and conclusions.

Two large areas of reasonable proximity, with a 70 degrees spread between them...
