From now on I will refer to him as "The Varangian."
The Vikings who settled eastern Europe were called Varangians.

I'm of Irish blood and my DNA tests show small link to Scandinavia. Have Dupuytren's Disease too, which is also traceable to the Vikings.
Always wondered where I got the urges to pillage and plunder :)

Lerch can’t be in the bloodline. He pronounces the name like a J; Jenjis.
I think Kerry is a French surrender specialist.

From the brief description of that disease I just saw, it sounds like it could manifest from holding swords? 🤔 There may be more to your urges than you know.

The Rus were Norsemen from Sweden who went east into the Baltics and Russia. Many went south to Constantinople to become the Varangean Guard for the Byzantine Emperors.
The Vikings from Norway and Denmark went west to take over most of England - the Danelaw - and Northern France - Normandy.

Lol, I thought that scene was odd though. Why in the world did they want to have a threesome with the slave priest they had just met not long ago? By all accounts they didn’t seem all that liberal in context of the show. I mean, even the Earl talked a man into sleeping with his wife but killed him for agreeing to it.

They had great plans for Stan. He was going to be their human sacrifice.
But that ungrateful Englander punked out on them.

Strictly speaking, Rurik created the Kievan Rus out of the Rus Khaganate. The Kievan Rus is the parent of Ukraine, Russia, and Belarus.
Are they claiming this via Agatha, wife of Edward the Exile, whose daughter Margaret married Malcom III of Scotland?

No really. Large Dynasty https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rurik_dynasty
Elements of it did marry into the royal houses of Wessex on two occasions and from there are married into the royal houses of Scotland, and the Normans.

Some did both. King Harald Sigurdsson Hardrada was a leader in the Varangian guard after he lost a dynastic struggle to Cnut. Harald returned to Norway a rich man, purchasing co-kingship of Norway and Denmark from his nephew, who died “natural causes” the next year. (All sorts of poisons are natural, aren’t they?) In 1066, King Harald Sigurdsson Hardrada invaded England to put Tostig Godwinson on the throne over his bother King Harold Goodwinson. King Harold Goodwinson defeated both, but later lost to Duke William the Bastard of Normandy
