maybe this analysis hasn't been done yet, but I am not as skilled as some others here. If every state followed the same rules as Nebraska and Maine, what would be the electoral college result this cycle?
I was able to find some analysis from 2012, and IIRC, the result would have been a narrow victory for Romney.
Any thoughts?
Even though the states have the right to determine their electoral votes I dont like it. Repeal the 17th amendment, keep the electoral college and lets get back on the road to being a Republic once again.
If you are suggesting selecting electors based on congressional district lines. Trump would still win.
This would be a fairer way of capturing the true intentions of the American electorate IF NO fraud votes are counted. That’s the key.
Also it would be problematic if they gerrymandered all the district boundaries before every presidential election.
If nation followed rules and didn’t allow illegals to vote, it wouldn’t have been near as close.
Yeah, don’t care too much for what most of the states do in awarding ALL the EV to the winner.
Romney was a super liberal idiot.
Trump is President-Elect, is the result. What if’s don’t matter. Time to get going on restoring the Republic. Rehashing the election don’t make much sense at this point.
Okay, real rough analysis. Republicans have 218 seats in the House. *If* each district that elected a Republican also voted for Trump then he would have 218 electoral votes. He also won 28 states, which would give him 56 EVs. 218 + 56=274. A narrow win.
Of course, the assumption is that each district voted for the same party in Congress and at the top of the ticket. Would be interesting to see if some Democrat districts voted for a RAT in the House but for TRUMP in the White House.
You can bet DJT will be crunching those numbers and putting pressure on those Congress critters.
Republicans have 239 seats in the House. If Trump won all of those and 28 states, he'd have 239 + 56 = 295.
It will be difficult to research the results, since most states only report vote totals by county, not by congressional district.
It would also make it almost impossible to call a state for a candidate, since most battleground states will have electoral votes go to both candidates, so you would have to wait for the totals, not just exit polls.
Yes, if that report of 3,000,000 illegal aliens voting is TRUE, it REALLY needs to be fixed.
Two problems with your figuring:
First, the Republicans have between 238 and 244 seats in the House. So 241 (let’s say) + 56 = 297.
But then also, the districts were often gerrymandered in 2010 to allow the survival of senior congressmen of both parties. And many congressmen can tailor their message to their local districts. There are probably many seats that went Republican in the presidential vote that retained a veteran Democrat.
I don’t care what the result is. The rest of the nation doesn’t nor should it. This is a fools errand.
The founders had it correct. Quit buying into the commies little by slow destruction of a great nation
Last total I saw for this election was 218R, 193D, with 4 not yet called.
218 + 193 + 4 = 415. There are 435 seats in the House of Representatives.
Oops. Back to the drawing board. Thanks.
not exactly like voting percents, but there is that country map some one posted shows very few areas of the country democrat majorities, mostly big city areas.
mea culpa. 239 is the number. Looks like only THREE elections have not been called. So add 21 to the 274...296 EVs.
should say “voting precinct” - districts
I agree. It should be by congressional district with state winner getting the 2 senate electors.
