Trump did more than that: he won over Democrats while GOP Inc can’t even win over enough independents.
Yes, and he won those Democrats, by winning the working class particularly in the rust belt! He Was the only R who was going to win this cycle because he was the ONLY one who was free to tell the “free trade” globalists go Eff yourselves....
Not one of the other 16 or 17 or whatever it was could or would have done it... they were all taking money from people who WANTED MORE GLOBALISM NOT LESS!
Trump was the ONLY candidate who could have won 2016... and he laid the gauntlet down from day one on how he planned to do it! The elites were just too damned arrogant to believe it was possible... Sure Trump might get OH an IA.. but that was it.. even if he pulled of FL and held NC... he had no path the victory...
Their small arrogant minds were completely out of touch with the pain and suffering that globalism had wrought on this region, and they were blind to the furhter pain and anger those harmed by those policies had watching the cumulative effects of liberal policies further blight their communities without anyone giving a damn about it.. Trump, made a bold play, a play not one of the other R’s likely would have seen, and none would have had the ability, let alone the gonads to try. Their backers would have never let them toss globalism aside, they want more of it, not less.
