In regards to this thread, I’d say several of the candidates would have beaten her.
As Cruz is of Cuban descent (and this is true of Rubio as well), he would have done better among FL Cuban-Americans and probably scored a little higher among FL Hispanics in general. Florida would have been mostly locked up from the outset. Would have won North Carolina. Ohio would have gone Cruz as well, but more narrowly - he would have traded a lot of Trump’s NW Ohio votes for bigger margins in the suburbs. Would likely have won Wisconsin - he’d have run further ahead in the “WOW” counties but behind Trump’s numbers in the LaCrosse area. He probably would have run better in the West, picking up Colorado and Nevada, possibly New Mexico, but not run as well in a lot of the North - I doubt he’d have won Michigan or come as close in Minnesota, Maine or New Hampshire as Trump had.
Scott Walker would have likely carried Wisconsin and Iowa, possibly Michigan, if not, I’d say probably Colorado and maybe Virginia. Minnesota was a possibility but probably still a narrow miss.
I think a mix of the above two scenarios would have fit most of the candidates like Paul, Fiorina or Rubio.
I think Jeb would be among the most likely to lose. It’d have been tough for him to argue himself as a change candidate as yet another Bush. And as the primary proved, he was a weak and lousy candidate. Hillary would have had a field day arguing that another Clinton admin would be better than another Bush. Jeb would just have never had the passion behind his candidacy that Trump had. If he won, he would have limped to victory with a narrow margin.
Low energy
absolutely not.
I would certainly like to think so. Might be that she’s so bad any decent candidate could have beaten her.
She might the worst candidate in history but Trump really brought that out well.
For what they are worth, polls taken a couple weeks ago, Cruz tied, Rubio+8, Gay’s Itch +12.
Gay’s itch wouldn’t have won by 12. Milktoast SOB.
But I don’t know, what DJ says about Trump I never bought while the campaign was going on but hey...the pudding. I don’t think anyone else would have have came within a few points of taking places like Lackawanna County. But others I think certainly would have won places like DuPage IL that Trump did not.
Different candidates, different paths, we’ll will never know for sure. But she’s awful and she managed to lose to Obama, an empty sack of hot socialist air in a “cool” package so I wouldn’t rule out most of them.
Cruz and Rubio, I gotta think would have gotten more Hispanic votes. It’s pretty hard for me to envision anyone besides one of them to have taken the nomination if Trump didn’t.
Jeb would be maybe the worst, he completely takes away the strongest issue against her, that’s she literally is the (dem) establishment, cause he was the GOP establishment and her husband left office a lot more popular than his brother. That would be the last 3 GOP Presidents from the same family, that’s a damn tough sell given the failure of the first 2. He’s a real a-hole for even running. He and Shilly are 2 sides of the same coin, loved by donors but not voters.
Chrsitie with the bridgegate crap, I don’t know. Seems like Trump doesn’t even wanna give him a job now. LOL
Rand Paul is not too sharp so I don’t know but he takes the Libertarian vote. I’d worry about the debates with him, a gaffe.
I have zero respect for Huckabee and his fake diabetes cure. Would America buy a used car from him?
Carson was such an amateur but had folksy appeal he would depend on his ability to learn fast.
“Cruz and Rubio, I gotta think would have gotten more Hispanic votes. It’s pretty hard for me to envision anyone besides one of them to have taken the nomination if Trump didn’t. “
Of course I neglected to mention by original choice, Walker. I still gotta think he’s a strong candidate for national office. Who knows how his campaign might have gone differently. Weird ending, IIRC he was playing it super safe safe and donors just all at once bailed and that was all she wrote. Sadly that has to go down with flops like Perry 2012 and Rudy 2008.
All 3 could have won their respective nominations sans mistakes/gaffes.
