God may not be the next explanation but He will always be the Final Explanation.
> “God may not be the next explanation but He will always be the Final Explanation.”
There will never be a final explanation by science. Science will never explain God.
There will never be a finality in science because science must REDUCE sensory observation to measurement, to computation. to mathematics, whereas consciousness and awareness of existence are outside such reduction.

A computer no matter how advanced can never have ‘understanding’, have a ‘soul’.
If you backtrack a bit in the above youtube link of the interview of Sir Roger Penrose, you will hear him mention of Kurt Gödel who was the greatest philosopher of the 20th century and perhaps of all human history.
Albert Einstein considered Kurt as his most cherished friend and looked up to him more than any other contemporary. He once stated that his own theories were not so much of interest to him as was the daily lunchtime walk he looked forward to with Kurt at Princeton.
Whereas Albert looked outward to the universe in an attempt to explain nature, Kurt looked inward to the mind.
In science and human reasoning, it is the mind where things start. Kurt explained to Albert why his unified theory fell short; Albert was intrigued. The two were seen walking alone together most every day.
Gödel was never as famous as Einstein until the advent of the computer age. Theoretical computer scientists and Artifical Intelligence designers study intensely the works of Gödel and his followers, as did I.
God cannot be ‘reduced’. God is both Alpha and Omega, both a singularity and the infinite. There is no dimension that contains God; no time, no space, no mass. God is light, God is connectedness, God is love. All these stem from consciousness which begets awareness and existence. These things are mysteries, metaphysical and so are shunned because they are not attainable, not within reach, not available to grab and make one’s property, not subject to the selfish will of the fallen human. They are out of reach of human selfishness.
The first Human was created in the IMAGE OF GOD. That image is the existence of a soul. That soul has UNDERSTANDING. Computers will never have understanding.
Human understanding will always be LIMITED OR INCOMPLETE. It can and will devise systems and theories that are complete as I have, but such theories and systems are and always will be LIMITED. Theories that are complete will be internally consistent but never fully comprehensive.
It is approved and encouraged to pursue science and scientific understanding. But the awareness of our fallen nature is very important. Our progenitor chose by the ‘free will of understanding’ to exist apart from God, to follow darkness, to fall under the deceit of evil, thus rendering us LIMITED AND INCOMPLETE and subjecting our physical nature to mortality which impedes our UNDERSTANDING which is the state of presence with God.
Still, we should look for our heroes in science and encourage our children accordingly. Because good things come from science and everything that is good originates from God. Health, happiness, extension of lifetimes and improvement in the quality of lives, all these are good. Science is thus a gift but as a summary, as a reduction of our souls is limited and incomplete. The good news is that this state of physical mortality is temporary.
So where do these considerations apply? They help us not to waste time. They make our thinking and efforts more efficient. We can use the Gödel models of human intellect to test whether a targeted result is attainable or intractable. Thus, it helps to guide us in science.
