Because you DO understand art. You have just been told that art is an intellectual exercise that only "sophisticates" understand. That's what they want you to believe. Any Rand wrote a book on this topic.
Art is simply a matter of taste. It is no different from music. As an art professor once told me, "Do you ever hear people questioning their taste in music? No. People hear what they like and they buy it. They will defend it vigorously. Their tastes may change over time, but you never hear people questioning their right to like or dislike music."
Glad you mentioned Ayn Rand on art. I loved her definition of art: “Selective re-creation of reality”.
What she is saying the artist is creating what they believe is most important—and reflecting their values.
What we have here is pedophilia art reflecting pedophilia values. It is off the charts disgusting, and I would never associate with anyone who owned one piece of this stuff.
