Yeah not sure how mine became a 460 wthby mag as I bought it from another deputy I worked with in New Mexico. Called Ruger after buying it as I thought I had a rare chambering due the engraving of caliber “quality” of the caliber on the barrel. Ruger got the call, gave em the serial number and it officially left the factory as a 458 Win mag and came back for custom work to re-chamber a year later in 460 wthby mag ..... so I guess its “factory” in a way just not ever “catalog” ... :o)

Yes on recoil..... x 10. Shot a friends No 1 in 375 H&H from a bench and it seemed to kick harder than my 460 standing. Bench shooting anything with substantial recoil is felt more due ergonomics in my own opinion.

Can you use / interchange 458 Win Mag as well as 458 Lott in that No 1 ? Seem to remember reading that. Real handy if ammo is lost in transit to a hunt and all ya can get locally is either or .....

Yes, you can use 458 Win Mag in a .458 lott. When I first got the rifle, I had to wait for the ammunition. The shop had an old box of 458 Win Mag they were more than happy to sell (who shoots this stuff in Michigan anyway?) and it chambered perfectly in the 458 Lott.

You can also turn 375 H&H cartridges into 458 Lott if you're careful, but the 458 brass is cheap and not worth doing.
