Depending on what youre shooting, theres always a little bit of recoil, sometimes its hardly noticeable, like the AR-15 unless youre a journalist with the New York Post. On the other hand, a rifle like .950 JDJ, has a kick that leaves a lasting impression and probably a bruise the size of a dinner plate.

I heard of wrist busters but now there are collarbone busters.

Of course, you could also attach a rifle stock to an M-19 mortar tube. That would probably kick quite a lot too.

Why didn’t they just go ahead and make it a full one inch?

This is where the adjustable pneumatic butt plate comes into play.

Really, why? Just because you can build something doesn’t mean that you should. A “sportsman’s exception”? What are people hunting that need a “rifle” of this size? Dinosaurs are extinct.

Armored vehicles arent.
But this is not the average persons gun nor can it be fired quickly, or lugged around easily. They only made three, they are custom rounds, and while this gun weighs around 50 pounds the other two weigh about 100,pounds.
So,i think we are pretty much immune from your concerns, as a country.

Better put that thing on a gimbal, and look for something big, low and slow, and even then pray to Apollo to guide your projectile.
