The following is speculation:
1. Comey decided to go along with Clinton because either she can threaten him or reward him. She has that power either through Obama and other well placed government officials, or third parties working on her behalf.
2. Both types of power diminish greatly if she loses. Her ability to punish people also diminishes as we come closer to the election. If she wins, her broad inclination to blackmail, extort and bully will increase.
3. The only ways to stop an extortionist/blackmailer is to either kill the extortionist/blackmail (just watch a few episodes of Perry Mason) or disarm her by coming forward with everything so there is nothing with which to extort/blackmail.
4. I see no evidence that Comey is particular strong, principled or interested in suffering. However, there are lots of other people who may be on the receiving end of Clinton’s antics, including the original Wikileaker, who may be in a position to push on Comey from the OTHER direction.
5. Suddenly, it might well be in Comey’s interest to move things at a time where retribution would be minimized, ineffective or even counter-productive.
6. Comey may want to look at properties in Malta or Chile or New Zealand.
