Britt Hume became a serious Christian after the loss of his son to suicide in 1998. His naturally wry manner is thus reinforced by faith and life experience that give him an appreciation of our fickleness and of the shallowness of our obsession with the new and shiny things that pass by every day.

Too bad Brit has morphed into a tireless #NeverTrump shill, along with almost all other Fox talking heads.

Vote Trump!

I support Trump, but, even with his talent and virtues, he is an improbable novice candidate with a stubborn streak and an often difficult personality. In the general election, Trump has been chewed up badly by the news media and the Clinton machine, often due to his inexperience and avoidable mistakes.

Results matter though, and if, as we hope, Trump wins and is a success like Reagan, the Never Trump crowd will look foolish as they eat plate after plate of crow; but if Trump loses, they will be vindicated and we will be eating crow.

In any event, Brit Hume will no doubt be restrained and wry in his comments. As a Christian, he knows that except for our eternal spirit, we are all dust and that this world will passeth away. How could a man of years and deep personal loss who believes that not have a detached manner?
