Off topic, but why are the stadium lights on at an afternoon game??? Isn’t that a huge waste; what is the carbon footprint of that stadium? Aren’t liberals upset about that?

The non-snark answer is safety. Field lighting produces a uniform light level across the field, particularly if the game is played close to evening where shadow conditions can change rapidly.

The lights are generally on for daytime NFL games, and for a lot of other events if they are nationally televised. The networks want them on to minimize shadows or any other change in the picture caused by cloud cover or the setting sun.
