Schoolkids in Britain and Hong Kong (and maybe other countries as well) have uniforms.Shirts and ties for boys and skirts for girls.IMO that's an excellent idea for many reasons.And as far as any protest of "I can't afford to buy that" you can provide two sets to any kid whose parents (or maybe I should say *parent*) can't afford it.

And yes,you can have the girls being given an option of slacks or skirts.

Also....IIRC Japan also has uniforms for schoolkids.

Yep, that’s one case where I’d be willing to have taxpayers pay for uniforms. Heck with the amount I pay in property taxes, they should be able to afford it.

Yes, Japan has uniforms—almost sickeningly sweet for the kindergarteners and first-grade kids, more early 20th century military style for high school boys and sailor-inspired outfits for the girls. Slight differences so each school’s is different, but they all look pretty much the same.

Uniforms are worn in Costa Rica and Mexico as well. Many parents there are poor but manage to manage.

Most countries have school uniforms the moment they can (barely) afford them. Its surprising how low on the income level this kicks in. Even in Africa.
