Sooners were white settlers who snuck in and staked claims “sooner” than the territory had been officially open.
Sooner means Cheater.
Cheater = Democrat.
THAT’S why they are offended.

Do away with “sooner” and there go half the words from their fight song lyrics.
I asked an OU student if they had created safe spaces there yet, and she acknowledged they had. I asked her what for, and she tried to explain that sometimes a person just needs to get away from a mean roommate or a negative atmosphere in the dorm. I told her that in my day the safe space was known as a library.
There are the Boomers and the Sooners.
“Boomers” waited till the “Boom” of the starting canon to make their run to claim unclaimed lands, a real free-for-all!
“SOONERS” slipped in ahead of time and claimed the best. Many were caught and removed by the US Army.
To prevent more free-for-all runs on the unclaimed lands, a lottery system was established.
My great-grand-parents were part of the lottery of 1901 and settled on homesteads near Hobart OK. They did well!
One of the better ending stories of the Oklahoma Land Rush was a farmer and family were in the rush but before they could claim land their wagon broke down and they got NONE.
As they were leaving, their camp was visited by two cowboys who had participated and claimed land there. During the visit, the cowboys said they really had no urge to upgrade their claims and so for fifteen dollars each, they sold their claims to the farmer. He said it was real good land!
I hate the term “sooners” because HOOK’EM!
I should mention that my wife’s great-grand-parents settled north of Guthrie around Mulhall, Real good land except for that slippery black stuff that sticks to the feet.

Ok, do away with the name. Just call them that red and white team. Oops, there it is again. Red man and white man. Simple solution is to put an end to all sports. That’ll send a good portion of students home without scholarships and cause a tuition hike for everyone.

Probably some of the same snot nosed, pimple faced cup cakes that have been calling on behalf of Oklahoma Stewardship lobbying against the Right to Farm Bill.
