There are only two genders but there are *lots* of mental problems.
As any Latin (French, German, ...) student knows, there are three genders: masculine, feminine, and neuter.
There are, however, only two sexes: male and female. And getting one’s parts chopped off doesn’t change one’s sex.
Linguistic pecksniffery aside, your point about LOTS of mental problems is very well made.
