How Cats Evolved to Win the Internet

Like many people, I needed a cat photo for my personal website. Lulu did the trick. She was puffy, orange and belonged to the ex-roommate of my sister’s boyfriend. Lulu — whose nickname is Luyoncé — vamped obligingly, and Lulu’s owner soon decided that her budding cat model required an Instagram account.

That was just over six months ago. My website’s traffic has languished, but Lulu now commands nearly 40,000 Instagram followers. “Be the cute you wish to see in this world,” one post says. In another, she gloats from the bottom of a laundry hamper.

Can openers. That's what they have us for.

I have a bumper sticker that says “it’s a cats world, i’m just here to open the cans’. Because it’s all I seem to do...lol

LOL - yeh, their greatest victory is convincing us that we’re in charge. If they ever do grow opposable thumbs, our tenure as a species on this planet comes to a nasty end.

Ahem. [from the article]

"A recent study of ancient feline DNA showed how cats left their native lands in the Near East, hitching rides with human seafarers — including, delightfully, Vikings — and then ditching us to invade an ever-wider array of habitats.

I had cats and dogs my entire life, about 15 years ago I realized that my cats gave me a headache. They slept with me and I would wake up in pain and with itchy eyes and a stuffy nose.

The last cat passed away and I am only a dog person now. I hope and pray that I don’t start having a problem with dog dander. I couldn’t make it with out my pups.

Only because cats aren’t allowed on counter tops where can openers are located. However, cats can open lower cabinet doors, pull food pouches out of boxes and open said food pouches. They can get into big bags of food on the floor but dogs can’t.

I used to have severe allergies from one particular cat. Not so much with any others. My eyes would slough off a layer of eye ball skin every few days. I could pull it off. Who knew that was possible? Thankfully, I’m fine with other cats.

We’re up to 7 now including 3 feral kitties. The feral kitties are now coming in at night and one or two might wander onto my bed for a few minutes, sniff my toes and creep up to my face. The second I look at them - whoosh! they’re gone. They make themselves comfy on the couch and their bowl is behind my desk, but again, if someone walks past - whoosh! Two are on the porch, on a rocking chair and a table but if I so much as looks out the open door, they’ll run off in terror. It’s doubtful they’ll be domesticated.

Somehow, they need to be caught to be fixed. Neighbors have been shooting cats and hauling them off so we don’t need more.

The first sign of a species advancement in cats is the moment a cat learns to ignore and not chase those laser dots. When that advancement happens, BE VERY AFRAID Darwin, cats will next have you eating those pesky rodents for them.

WHO WOULD HAVE BELIEVED, 30 YEARS AGO, THAT ONE DAY YOU WOULD CARRY A DEVICE IN YOUR POCKET THAT COULD ACCESS ALL HUMAN KNOWLEDGE, BUT INSTEAD, YOU WOULD USE IT TO STORE PICTURES OF CATS AND GET INTO FIGHTS WITH PEOPLE YOU DIDN’T KNOW?

I had one that was worse than the others too. She was very fat, had trouble grooming herself and her back always had lots of dander. It is the flaky dander that gets us.

A few years ago we had 7 house cats and when the last one passed, I said no more cats at our house.
