A cat who travelled more than 370 miles from Switzerland to Germany has been reunited with her family more than a year after first going missing. 15 year old Sissi, who is also deaf, was found weighing less than two kilos and with hardly any teeth in the western German town of Bonn. She disappeared from her home in St Gallen in August last year, with her owners assuming she had been caught by a fox.
It was very difficult for us. Tears flowed, said owner Julika Fitzi about the cats disappearance 13 months ago. Her husband Roger also told the Express they had given up hoping for her return. The whole family suffered, he added, explaining she would often play with their other cat Max.
efuge worker Susanne Wanniger said the cat was found in a dire condition, and was covered in fleas and ticks.
The cat was a featherweight, she only weighed about two kilos, she added. A micro-chip revealed Sissi somehow travelled from Switzerland, with the shelter using social media to try and track the owners down.
A purr-fect re-union Despite it being more than a year since she left, Mrs Fitzi said she recognised Sissi from the photos immediately.
The couple travelled to Bonn to collect the cat this weekend and the purring feline was overjoyed with the reunion.
However, the mystery of how the cat got so far across the continent remains unsolved.
Mrs Fitzi thinks she may have got in a vehicle accidentally, making the six hour trip by road. The pair are now looking to get both of their cats fitted with GPS collars.
And that's the best part of the whole deal!
Hopefully she loses that Swiss accent.
That breed is indomitable. Determined. And excellent in the wild. How wonderful to know the chip worked as we all hope for when using them in our wandering pets.
And the desire for Muesli Vittles.
Ah...hahaha
As one with some Swiss Italian heritage I appreciate
the contribution.
hope we get to see you again
